We are Rolling
So, I talked with one of the ladies that does Triathlons. She is currently training for a half Ironman and is an incredible source of information. She told me about how doing this has changed her life and how she couldn’t imagine how life would be now if she didn’t do this. Such an inspiration. She didn’t know how to swim when she started (just like me) and hadn’t been on a bike for years (just like me). And she said that once I get a bike and/or learn to swim that she’d be happy to go out with me for a ride or swim some laps. She did tell me that the first thing I should do is start to learn to swim.
This morning I called and found information about swimming lessons. There is a class that starts July 12th. It runs on Saturdays and is 6 weeks long. They teach all levels and its an adult class. So, I am going to sign up for it and get this ball rolling. We are also looking into getting a used bike for me. She also told me that if I go into any bike shop, they can measure me so I get the right size of bike for my height. Then she said to just buy a used one, because I don’t know if I really wanna do this once I get into it. She said that there isn’t much point to spending a lot of money on a bike if I only do this once, and I agree.
And that she thinks that, if I trained hard I could do my first Tri by August. Well, there is one on September 6th that has a 400 meter swim, 9 mile bike ride and 5K run. That is the one I am trainging for. Once my little girl wakes up we are going on my first run. I am doing a “couch to 5K” and start with running for 20 minutes today. I can do this and I am stoked about the goal.

The First Day of the Rest of My Life
Today I decided that I am going to train for a mini-triathlon. I haven’t ever done anything like this before, in fact I am petrified of water that I can’t see the bottom of, but this is something that has intrigued me for sometime now. There are several ladies that live in my neighborhood that have been involved in this community (the Triathlon community, that is) for a couple of years now.
I used to be a body builder. I competed in body building contests and was in pretty incredible shape. Then I stopped, for a number of reason. But, mostly because I can get depressed now and then and when I get depressed, I close myself off from everything. I know that the best way to fight through a depression is to keep active. I just haven’t ever been able to muscle through the hard times.
So, I haven’t lifted any weights in about 3 years. In that time, I had a baby and gained an extra 30+ 40+ pounds that weren’t there 3 years ago. My “baby” is now about 16 months old and I still haven’t lost the weight that I gained when I was pregnant with her. She is beautiful and I love her so much that I wouldn’t change having her for the world. I just wish that I had been motivated enough to 1. not gain the extra weight that I did gain while I was pregnant and 2. lose the excess baggage that I now have.
So, my goal tonight is to talk to some of these ladies that have done Triathlons and get some advice. Because, today is the first day of the rest of my life. I can’t afford to waste another second.
